APPOINTEESHIPS

What is an Appointeeship?

An appointeeship is a formal arrangement where an approved person or organisation manages a person’s benefits and day to day money when they are unable to do this safely themselves.
ILBP acts as a professional appointee, receiving benefits, paying priority bills and providing personal allowances so vulnerable adults are financially safe, supported and compliant with DWP and local authority requirements.

When is an appointeeship appropriate?

Common questions about appointeeships

Who can request an appointeeship with ILBP?
Referrals typically come from local authority social workers, hospital teams, care providers or families who are concerned about how money is being managed.
Does an appointeeship cover all of a person's money?
Appointeeships usually relate to DWP benefits. Other income, savings or property may require different arrangements, such as a deputyship or a one off Court of Protection order.
How are clients involved in decisions?
Where possible, clients are involved in budgeting and day-to-day decisions about their money. We always aim to work in the least restrictive way, in line with the Mental Capacity Act.
